The Aluminum LS1 with a serpentine belt system is compact, lighter and makes a lot more low end torque than the VG30DETT. It will fit easily in to the engine bay but you will have to make many custom parts. The trick is to use a corvette transmission which has the same left of center gear selector and the proper gear ratios for that motor. Then you would have to make a custom drive shaft, custom motor and transmission mounts. It's all the fine details that are hard. Getting a new computer, and getting the gauges to work will require lots of fiddling. If I happend to come across a Z that needed a motor and a I just happend to fine an LS1 with trans for a great price, I'd try it but there is a certain magic in the complexity and potential of the VG30DETT that make it more interesting.
